According to Wikipedia, calzone is an Italian word meaning stocking or trouser. I never personally thought of a calzone as a trouser although stocking works considering a calzone is not much more than a folded over pizza.
We do eat a lot of pizza and a calzone added to the mix is a welcome menu shift. While calzones in Italy are not served with sauce on the side, I serve marinara on the side and the kids are quite fond of the dipping action.
Begin with the classic Pizza Dough recipe.
Fill your calzone with whatever takes your fancy. In this case, roasted red bell, spinach and cheese.
Then fold your calzone and make cute finger impressions along the round side:
Bake at 450 F for 30-40 minutes until the outside of your calzone is crusty and brown.
